You know how to hold fifty minutes. This training is about what changes when you have a whole day (or more).

Beyond the Hour is a self-guided training for therapists ready to move past the weekly-hour model and offer therapy intensives - extended sessions that let clients go deeper, faster, without losing momentum between appointments. Whether you're just exploring the format or ready to build it into your practice, this training gives you the clinical framework, the structure, and the confidence to run intensives well.

What you'll walk away with

By the end, you won't just understand intensives conceptually, you'll have a drafted intensive built for one real client of yours: their readiness assessed, their schedule mapped hour by hour, their likely protectors named, and their landing planned.

What's inside

  • 4 modules, self-paced, built from the original live training
  • Real clinical content: the 7 types of intensives, a five-domain readiness framework, format and length selection, session structure and pacing, working with protectors and dysregulation, repair and integration, aftercare
  • A worked case study followed from opening to follow-up, so you see the framework applied in real time, not just described
  • Downloadable worksheets: a client readiness assessment, a structure-building template, and follow-up/aftercare templates you can adapt for your own practice

Learning Objectives

By the end of this training, you will be able to:

  1. Differentiate therapy intensives from weekly therapy and identify at least five types of intensive, along with the client presentations each is designed to address.
  2. Apply a structured readiness assessment across regulation, support, expectation, stability, and fit to determine whether a client is appropriate for intensive work at a given point in time.
  3. Construct an intensive schedule that selects format and length based on client capacity and sequences grounding, processing, breaks, and integration.
  4. Apply nervous system informed pacing, titration, and containment to guide trauma processing across an extended session.
  5. Demonstrate a sequenced clinical response to protective responses including resistance, dissociation, shutdown, and flooding, and to relational rupture and repair.
  6. Integrate trauma modalities ethically and flexibly within an intensive framework, working inside scope of practice and training.
  7. Outline best practices for post-intensive integration, documentation, and follow-up care.

Who this is for

Clinicians who want to offer something beyond weekly sessions for clients who are stuck, who travel for care, who are facing a defined event, or who need more room than fifty minutes gives them.
