Advanced Brainspotting: Deepening Clinical Skill, Attunement, and Presence

A continuing education workshop offered by Groundwork Trauma Education

Brainspotting is a powerful trauma therapy model, and the clinicians who use it well know that the real work happens in the subtle moments. The shift in breath. The flicker of activation. The quiet edge of dissociation. The moment a client's system asks you to slow down, hold steady, or follow them somewhere new.

This advanced training is for clinicians who are already trained in Brainspotting and ready to deepen their clinical skill, attunement, and confidence in working with this modality and trauma clients. Rather than reviewing foundational Brainspotting concepts, this workshop focuses on how Brainspotting unfolds moment by moment in the therapy room, and how to work more skillfully with activation, dissociation, and complex presentations.

What You Will Explore

Participants will learn how to track the nervous system during Brainspotting sessions, stay attuned to subtle cues, and respond when sessions deepen, stall, or intensify. The training emphasizes therapist presence, pacing, and ethical clinical judgment so that you can offer Brainspotting with clarity, steadiness, and depth.

Content areas include:

  • Deepening attunement during Brainspotting sessions
  • Tracking nervous system activation and regulation in real time
  • Working with activation, shutdown, and dissociation during Brainspotting
  • Recognizing when to hold, when to intervene, and when to shift
  • Supporting parts, protectors, and internal dynamics within Brainspotting
  • Pacing and titration to prevent overwhelm and flooding
  • Navigating common challenges such as stuck spots or unclear directionality
  • Ethical considerations and scope of practice in trauma-focused Brainspotting
  • Supporting integration and stabilization after Brainspotting sessions

Learning Objectives

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe how nervous system activation presents during Brainspotting sessions
  2. Identify clinical indicators that guide pacing and intervention in Brainspotting work
  3. Apply attunement strategies to support safety and regulation during Brainspotting
  4. Respond effectively to dissociation, shutdown, or intensification during sessions
  5. Explain ethical considerations relevant to trauma-focused Brainspotting practice

Who This Workshop Is For

This training is designed for:

  • Licensed mental health professionals trained in Brainspotting
  • Therapists seeking to refine their Brainspotting clinical skills
  • Clinicians working with trauma, complex trauma, or chronic dysregulation
  • Brainspotting practitioners wanting more confidence in session flow and pacing
  • Therapists interested in deepening attunement and nervous system awareness

Important Note on Scope

This is an advanced educational training. It is not a Brainspotting certification or phase training and does not replace required Brainspotting training or consultation. Participants should have completed Phase 1 Brainspotting training prior to attending.
